OP Senior Serves as Firefighter

James Simon '20 was sworn in as a full member of the Morris Township Volunteer Fire Department on February 4th. James graduated from the Morris County Public Safety Academy in the summer of 2018 and has been working as a volunteer firefighter out of the Woodland Hook and Ladder Company since the spring of 2018. He encourages all the boys from Oratory to consider their local volunteer fire department as a great way to serve the community, learn how to handle serious situations, and work with some great men and women.

Father Jomon Brings a Saint’s Relic to OP

Recently, Oratory Prep got a special visit from Father Jomon Kalladanthiyil, CSC (Congregation of Holy Cross). With him, he brought a first-class relic of Saint Brother André Bessette. For those who do not know, a first-class relic means it was an original part of the saint (their bones, blood, or organs). While some can find this mildly disturbing, these relics are very honored as they contain the body of one of God’s Chosen people. With him, Father Jomon brought a medallion containing the blood of Saint Brother André.

Consortium Victory

Congratulations to our JV 7th grade team on winning 1st place at today’s Consortium General Knowledge tournament held at Newark Academy and our to our Varsity 8th grade team which placed 4th.

Middle School Faith & Service Awards

Yesterday, we celebrated Mass with the Middle School families and recognized two young men for their joyful witness to the Gospel and service to the community. Oliver Cullinan from the 7th Grade received the St. Philip Neri Joyful Disciple Award and Luke Evangelista received the St. Philip Neri Arms of God Award. Overall, it was a lovely time with about ninety participants.

Gun '24 & De Guzman '22 Returning to World Poomsae Championships

OP students & current USA Poomsae National Team members, Eric Gun (8th grade) & Jake De Guzman (10th grade) finished on top of their divisions at the USA Taekwondo’s Poomsae Grand Slam Finals & Team Trials. Held at the National Center of Excellence in Colorado Springs last January 18-20, the Grand Slam Finals was Phase 3 of the qualification system to determine spots for the 2020 US National Poomsae Team that will compete at the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in Herning, Denmark, May 21 to 24, 2020.

Robotics Team Finalists at Kent Place Meet

Yet again, Oratory's Rambotics exceeded expectations at the Dragon Summit Robotics meet held at Kent Place on Saturday, January 18. The meet featured 25 teams and OP finished pool play with a 3-2 record after a couple tough losses, but made it to the playoffs. In the playoffs, OP advanced to the finals and took home their 1st trophy of the season for their efforts!

Guest Speaker Shares "All In" Message

On Wednesday, January 15th, OP welcomed motivational speaker and teacher Gian Paul Gonzalez to OP to speak with our students. Gian Paul gained acclaim after speaking to the NY Giants the night before their game on Christmas Eve in 2011. The next day after Gian Paul’s chapel message the Giants beat the Jets 29-14. In a post game interview, Giant’s Defensive End, Justin Tuck credited Gian Paul's message of being “All In” as the reason the Giants won that day. The team went on to win every game, up to and including Super Bowl XLVI, where they beat the New England Patriots 21-17. His message of "All In" has been embraced by professional & college sports teams, Forbes 500 Corporations, and even the Army, Air Force & FBI.

Holiday Prep Tournament Champs

Congratulations to our Varsity, JV and Freshman Basketball teams which all won championships in their respective tournaments. The Varsity team won the championship over host school Morristown Beard by a score of 50-36. Oratory (3-1) took control early on, taking a 29-9 lead into halftime after leading 11-6 following the first quarter. Senior guard Peter Byrne lead the team in the championship with 18 points while sophomore Tommy Conniff added 12.

Middle School Christmas Service Trip

On Wednesday, December 18th, our middle school students and Santa visited Friendship Corner in Paterson, NJ to deliver gifts and to sing and read with the preschoolers. Everyone had a great time getting into the holiday spirit!
