College Counseling
Welcome from the Director of College Counseling
Oratory Prep's College Counseling program takes a personalized and holistic approach to each student's college journey and postsecondary plans. The phrase students will often hear is "good fit," not "perfect." There are many environments where students can thrive, become active members of their community, and feel comfortable challenging themselves appropriately and testing their limits. While students might have a preference, we know they will thrive as long as they remain mindful of this throughout their college search.
Through our student-driven process, we empower students to take the lead. Students create a list of schools that are a good fit for them — ones they can see themselves attending for four years to prepare for the workforce and promote their academic, social, and emotional development. Additionally, college admissions counselors want to hear directly from students and read essays in a 17-18-year-old's voice. For these reasons, we believe students should be in the driver's seat as they research colleges, apply to schools and manage their deadlines.
We take a collaborative approach with students and families to consider their options, answer questions, and provide updates in this ever-changing field. Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to reach out to their college counselor and take advantage of the numerous college counseling events held throughout the year.
