On Monday, February 12, Senior Corey Vita signed his National Letter of Intent to run Track and Cross Country at the College of the Holy Cross. Corey was a Varsity runner all four years for both the Cross Country team and Track team and also served as captain of the Track team since sophomore year and was captain for Cross Country this past season. During his career, Corey set the school record in the 400m hurdles, and was part of the record-setting relay teams in the 4x400, and 4x200. Corey has his sights set on breaking his previous records this spring.

Oratory Prep is proud to announce that Seniors Peter Finn, Isaac Russell, and Frederick Tang have been named Finalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Competition. It started with a test in the fall of 2016. Now, Finn, Russell, and Tang, seniors at Oratory Preparatory School, have advanced to the finalist level of the National Merit Scholarship Competition.

The mock trial team captured its 7th straight county championship ‪last week at the Union County Courthouse. The Defense team had an impressive showing and was led by attorneys Nick Sannito and Joey D’Angelo and witnesses Ryan Briggs, Jacob Greenberg, and Fernando Aviles. The team has now won 12 overall county championships. They will now competed in the Regional tournament last Thursday and advanced to the Regional Final on February 27th.

The OP Quiz Bowl team performed excellently at the NJ History Bee and Bowl Championship. The Varsity A team finished 7-1 and reached the quarterfinals and both teams qualified for Nationals in April! Justin Oei won the International Geography Olympiad and Ryan Bergh Thies placed in both the Geography and U.S. bees.

Due to the impending weather, Oratory Prep will be closed on Wednesday, February 7th. All after school activities and sports are canceled. Students should check Netclass for assignments.

On Sunday, January 21, 2018, Oratory Prep will be hosting a reception for Accepted Candidates in the gym of DeGaeta Hall from noon to 2 PM.

This coming January, Mr. Andrew Schultz (math) and Mr. Frank Kearns (verbal/writing) will offer an afternoon test preparation course at Oratory Prep School addressing both the SAT and ACT exams. The course will begin on Monday, January 8th, and run for seven consecutive Mondays from 3:00 - 5:00, leading up to the March SAT test date. Please click the news headline for more information.

The Parents' Guild will be hosting a presentation/discussion led by the High Focus Group on the current trends in alcohol and drug use in teens, and the signs of use and abuse on Nov. 16th from 7-9pm in the Bain Gym. The event is free. Click the news headline for more info and to register.

On August 24, 2017, Keith Matirko received his Eagle Scout rank and will receive a Bronze Palm for Merit Badges earned. Keith is a member of Troop 9, Chester, NJ. Keith’s Eagle Scout Service Project took place at the Hermits of Bethlehem in the Heart of Jesus, a Roman Catholic Religious Retreat Community located in Chester, NJ.
