Associate Head of School, Mr. Owen McGowan, of Oratory Prep announced yesterday that Addison Drone, Ian Ellmer, Carlo Lutero, Kevin Merila, and Liam Watkins have been named Commended Students in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Three Oratory Seniors were named Semifinalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program Competition. Peter Finn, Isaac Russell, and Frederick Tang will all continue in the competition, in an attempt to become a Finalist and the distinction of earning the Merit Scholar title. Linda Michalski, theology teacher at Oratory Prep School in Summit, was named Adviser of the Year by the New Jersey chapter of the Jefferson Awards Foundation, in June.

Beginning in September, Oratory Prep will again offer Study Skills, Time Management, and Organization courses for any student in grades 7-12. The course will be primarily taught by Mr. Martin, who has taught similar study skills and time management courses during the school year and at the OP Summer Academy, and he will be assisted by other qualified OP teachers. The course will run for approximately five weeks....

Philanthropy took on new meaning for teens from the Overlook community as they learned how a nonprofit board functions, worked through the grant process, and raised funds for their chosen cause. Student representatives from 13 area high schools served as members of the Overlook Foundation Junior Board for the 2016-17 school year, which culminated in their awarding of a $40,000 grant to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Overlook Medical Center. Rising Oratory senior Corey Vita, Junior Board Member, was part of this extraordinary fundraising accomplishment.

Matt Falcone '17 was recognized by US Lacrosse as an Academic All-American representing New Jersey. Matt was nominated by our Head Coach Sean Peterson and was selected by a committee based on his transcript. Matt received his certificate at the Gill-Gibbs Senior All Star Lacrosse game.
