Beginning in September, we will again offer Study Skills, Time Management, & Organization courses for any OP student in grades 7-12. Some of the skills students will learn/hone are: time management, organization of papers & assignments, note taking, planning projects & homework, short & long term goal setting, organization of space in school & at home, communicating with teachers, stress management techniques, & test taking strategies/preparation. Congratulations to incoming freshman Jake De Guzman who competed in the 2018 National Taekwondo Championships and Team Trials in Salt Lake City, Utah. Jake's team came in first place, and he placed 3rd individually in Freestyle Poomsae (ages 12-17), and he came in 7th in pairs and 8th individually in World Class Recognized Poomsae. He also earned a spot on the national team that will compete at the 2018 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships on November 15-18 in Taipei.

Congrats to Daniel McTernan on earning the Eagle Scout Rank. Daniel is part of Summit Troop 67. For his Eagle project he installed a two zone irrigation system in the garden of Central Presbyterian Church, replanted the garden and built two benches and a table for it.

The Oratory Prep Summer Academy offers educational, athletic, and recreational programs for boys and girls, grades 5-12. All camps and courses run weekdays throughout July. Both Oratory staff and local, reputable organizations will team up to present athletic camps. The program also offers academic courses for every type of learner and interest. 7th grader Christopher Cowell competed in the 85th Annual Watchung Stable Spring Troop Horse Show this past weekend and came in 4th place. This is his fourth year riding and it's one of his favorite activities. Congrats Chris!

Congratulations to Patrick Heffernan '18 who was awarded the Union County Scholar Athlete Award last night at an Awards Dinner. Patrick, our Student Council President, had an excellent swim season this year, breaking school records. Patrick will attend Notre Dame next year. He is pictured with OP Athletic Director Pat Gist.

On Sunday, May 20th, Corey Vita ‘18 was awarded the NJSIAA Scholar Athlete Award and received the Sid Dorfman Memorial Scholarship. Recently, Corey qualified for the Non-Public A State Group Championships in the 400m hurdles. Corey will continue his running career at Holy Cross. He’s pictured with Track coach Eugene Maxwell.

Robert Greeley '18 has earned the Congressional Gold Award Medal. This award is based on accomplishments in four areas: Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration. Some of the things that Robert did to earn this award was to backpack throughout New Mexico, build hiking trails, design and install a Memorial Rose Garden, assist in building a sand castle museum at the Jersey Shore, rebuild and plant sand dunes, and give over 600 hours of community service. The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ award for exceptional young Americans. Robert will travel to Washington D.C at the end of June to be presented his award by Congress.

The Oratory JV Math Team placed First in the first ever Consortium Math Relay event which took place at Newark Academy on Thursday, 5/3. Team members were Arnav Chahal, Parth Desai, Brian Kelly, Aidan Murphy, Gavin LaRusso and Blaine Chesnut. The members of the Varsity team, Pat Caughey, Abhay Desai, Garrett Hall, Matt Clark, Claude Dallemand and Declan Mann, tied for first place in their division. The teams competed against the following schools: Ridge, Central Middle, Newark Academy, Delbarton, Oak Knoll & Morristown Beard. Congratulations to all the boys and their coach, Mr. Barresi!
