Junior Patrick Heffernan was selected by USA Swimming to participate as an Athlete Representative at the annual USA Swimming Convention in Atlanta, Georgia from September 20 – 25, 2016. The convention consisted of business meetings and educational workshops conducted by USA Swimming, the National Governing Body of amateur swimming in the United States, as recognized by the United States Olympic Committee under the Amateur Sports Act. USA Swimming has over 340,000 athlete members and Patrick has been recognized as a leader by his peers.

The Associate Head of School, Owen McGowan, of Oratory Preparatory High School yesterday that Matthew Falcone of Florham Park, Brendan Mooney of Basking Ridge, Daniel Thek of Scotch Plains, and Xavier Warganz of Maplewood, have been named Commended Students in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.

We are proud to announce that OP senior Chris Rose has been recognized as a Semifinalist in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. Approximately 16,000 high scorers on the PSAT/NMSQT are chosen, representing less than 1 percent of the nation's high school graduating seniors. To put it in perspective, in the state of New Jersey, we have 499 semifinalists representing 122 high schools. Chris now has the opportunity to advance in the competition to Finalist standing and will then be eligible for some 7,500 Merit Scholarship awards. Congratulations Chris, and best of luck throughout the competition!

Stop by Oratory on Thursday, October 20th from 6:45pm - 8:15pm for our Open House. Visitors will have a chance to take a campus tour, meet with administrators, as well as find out information about our academic program, our athletics programs and student activities.

Freshman John Felitto shot a seven-under par 135 to earn medalist honors in his first career start. After carding a one-under par 70 in the morning round, he caught fire and shot a 65 in the afternoon, which tied for the fourth-best round in the Irish records book (sorted by strokes). In addition, his seven-under par 135 ranks as the lowest 36-hole tournament score in the Notre Dame records book.

Junior Joe Budisak placed 48th in the United States among ages 15-17 at the U.S. National Target Archery Championship and U.S. Open held in Alabama in July. Joe has been an avid archer since 7th grade. Congrats Joe!

Traditionally, this is the time of the year when we announce the opening of the Oratory online bookstore. Today, we are pleased to announce that Oratory families will NOT have to purchase textbooks and workbooks for the 2016-2017 school year. Depending on the course, students will obtain access to either an online resource or a physical copy of their book when they start their classes in the Fall.

OP Golf won the Non Public B Championship yesterday! John Felitto led the Rams with a 72, followed by Owen Durkin with a 75, Justin Susarchick with a 77 and Sean Vowells with a 79. Felitto wrapped up his OP golf career by winning the Non Public B State Individual Championship again!

Simon A. Wagner from Westfield, New Jersey, was honored as one of the brightest young students in the world at a recent awards ceremony sponsored by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY). Simon, a participant in the CTY Talent Search, was recognized for scoring exceptionally high on a rigorous, above-grade-level test.
