Junior Will Dondero recently won both a National Scholastic Gold Medal for writing and the New York Life Award. He is one of 6 students to win this distinction. Will was awarded a $1000 scholarship for this accomplishment. He was to be honored at Carnegie Hall, but it has been postponed due to COVID-19. Congrats Will, we are very proud of you!

OP senior, Michael Finnen, because of his performance as a gold medal winner on the 2020 National Latin Exam, is eligible to submit an application for a $2,000 National Latin Exam scholarship. This is the thirty-seventh year of the National Latin Exam scholarships, which are awarded to students who are interested in continuing their study of Latin or Greek at the college level. Sixteen $2,000 scholarships will be awarded this year.

Freshman Brandon Franks's pottery titled Winter Sky was just accepted to the Morris Museum's 31st Annual Fresh Perspectives juried high school art exhibition. Begun in 1989, this exhibit gives artistically accomplished students across Northern New Jersey the opportunity to showcase their work in a professionally curated museum exhibit.

Zachary DeVita-Paulson, a senior at Oratory Prep, has passed his Eagle Board of Review and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Zach has been a Boy Scout in Troop 2, West Orange, since he was in second grade. His Eagle project included making sign posts, mini maps, and clearing trails in the South Mountain Reservation. A formal Eagle Court of Honor will be scheduled in June.

Sophomore Jake De Guzman was on Capitol Hill from March 2 to March 4 to advocate for Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE) Courage at Congress. Jake having multiple food allergies shared his story on how potentially life-threatening food allergies affects him as a student and an athlete. This disease does not have a cure yet and there are 32 million Americans living with food allergies.
