The spring sports season has been a very successful one for OP athletics. More than 200 young men competed on the court, track, and field.
The baseball team, coming off a conference championship last season, competed at the highest level in Union County. New OP coach, Mike Murray, led the Rams to 10 wins, including a season sweep of Summit. Gettysburg commit Thomas Albanito, sophomore Jacob Minnefor, and senior Will Kostka led the pitching staff. Castleton commit Blake Duddy, senior Devon Mulvaney, junior Logan Costello, sophomore Vincenzco Luaces, and sophomore Gus Grove led the offense. Together, the team had 174 hits, 8 home runs, and drove in 99 runs.
OP Lax experienced a true youth movement with 16 freshmen in the program. Sophomore CJ Walsh, junior Luke Spoerel, and senior Tyson Moose led the team with a combined 156 points. Freshman Max LaBanca chipped in 28 points. Coach Aidan Clark looks to capitalize on many returning starters next season.
On the court, OP Tennis compiled a 14-11 record under Coach Mike Manna while competing in the top division in Union County. Senior Thomas LaFrance led the team with18 wins from the third singles spot. Junior Matt Moran followed with 15 wins. The first doubles duo of senior Sol Sebastian Wright and Junior Harry Short racked up 16 wins. At counties, all flights advanced.
OP Golf was led by a senior group coached by Kevin Lueck. Senior Ryan Fay led the team with a 9 hole 39 this season while seniors Kevin Geigher and Henry Zahn shot 40.
The Track and Field team has had yet another great year under the direction of Coaches Joe Seebode, Matt Sartori, and Jordan West. Numerous running and throwing Rams broke records and won championships. Senior Brody Sheehan set the school record in the 200 and the long jump. Lafayette commit Joey DeMarco won the Union County Championship and broke the school record in the discus. On the relay side, the 3 man long jump crew set the school record as did the 4 x 1600 team.
The most dominant spring has belonged to OP Volleyball in only its third season. The Rams won the conference championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the state tournament as of 5/28. Their record stands at 17-6. The team has been led by a group of seniors who fostered the initial growth of the program under Coach Darek Libucha. UC Santa-Barbara commit Devon Fernandez leads the entire state of NJ with 416 kills. Senior Miles Williamson eclipsed 1,000 career assists in a playoff win against Camden High. Senior Noah Tockarshewsky leads the team with 242 digs and senior Zach Owens leads the squad in blocks. Seniors Jeremy Yeager, Matt Donohue, Andrew Hipolit, junior Paul Healey, and sophomore Justin Sicat have been major contributors.
