Answering the Call: Donald Yapczenski ’26 Earns Eagle Scout Rank and Commits to Service

Donald Yapczenski ’26 has reached a remarkable milestone on his journey of leadership and service, earning the rank of Eagle Scout while also taking an important step toward his future in military service.

After a year of preparation, discipline, and perseverance, Donald officially took his oath at Joint Base McGuire–Dix–Lakehurst, surrounded by family and supported by his recruiter, TSgt. Biggs, and fellow airmen. The day marked the culmination of months of effort, paperwork, and training, ensuring he was fully prepared to commit himself to the United States Air Force Reserves. Together with his recruiter, Donald discussed the responsibilities ahead, including monthly service on base prior to beginning basic military training.

Standing in the Reserves office lobby, Donald raised his right hand, recited the oath, and pledged his commitment to serving his country. One of the most meaningful moments came immediately afterward, when he shared the news with his grandfather, Don, who served in the Air Force Reserves as a medic and Staff Sergeant. That generational connection made the moment especially powerful, linking Donald’s achievement to a family legacy of service.

Donald’s accomplishment as an Eagle Scout played a significant role in this next chapter. Because of his dedication and leadership through Scouting, he entered the Air Force Reserves with the rank of E-2, a distinction earned through years of commitment and growth. He is scheduled to attend basic military training in September 2026 and will continue his preparation in the months leading up to boot camp.

Following his training, Donald plans to pursue a role in Special Mission Aircraft Maintenance, combining technical skill with service to something greater than himself. As he looks ahead, he does so with gratitude, humility, and determination. His journey reflects the values of leadership, discipline, and service that define both the Eagle Scout rank and the Oratory Prep experience, and the entire OP community is proud to celebrate this outstanding achievement.
