October Happenings at Oratory Prep

Building Bonds Through Retreats
Our 7th Grade students kicked off their Oratory journey with a day of challenge, teamwork, and discovery at this year’s retreat. From high ropes adventures to group problem-solving activities, the boys learned what it means to step outside their comfort zones, trust one another, and work together toward shared goals. This experience wasn’t just about conquering heights — it was about building the foundation of the Brotherhood that defines life at Oratory.

As they encouraged, supported, and celebrated one another, our newest Rams began to understand that true strength is found in unity and faith. Here’s to the start of a journey rooted in friendship, character, and the spirit of “Fidelitas.”

Later in the month, our 8th grade students came together for their annual retreat — a day dedicated to reflection, connection, and growth within the Oratory community. Together, they explored the meaning of community: what it means to belong, how to contribute, and why a faith-based brotherhood matters so deeply in their lives. Through team-building, small group discussions, and quiet reflection, our students discovered that community is more than being together — it’s about supporting one another and living out our pillars of fidelity, humility, charity, and joy each day.

Celebrating Faith and Service
In honor of Clergy Appreciation Month, the OP community gathered for a schoolwide Mass to celebrate and thank Father Matt for his spiritual leadership, kindness, and faith-filled guidance. His joyful presence and unwavering devotion to the Lord reflect the spirit of our patron, St. Philip Neri, and the values that define life at Oratory.

Through his words, prayers, and ministry, Father Matt reminds us daily of God’s love at work within our school. We are deeply grateful for his dedication to our students, faculty, and families — and for the countless ways he brings faith and joy to the Brotherhood.

Leadership and Achievement in Action
October also brought moments of recognition and celebration for our students’ leadership and academic accomplishments. Congratulations to our newest Class of 2029 Student Council leaders — Jack Fagan, elected CEO, with Ryan Spoerel and Will Stirk serving as Representatives. These freshmen have stepped up to lead their classmates with purpose and pride, embodying what it means to be men of character and faith.
We also congratulate Ryan Fox, Nicholas Notopradono, and Christopher Vardas for earning recognition as National Merit Commended Students! Their outstanding PSAT/NMSQT scores placed them among the top performers nationwide — a true testament to their hard work, discipline, and dedication to academic excellence.

Learning Through Inspiration
Our students had the privilege of hearing from Stephen Hill, a nationally recognized speaker, author, and founder of Speak Sobriety. Stephen shared his powerful personal story of struggle, perseverance, and redemption — from battling addiction as a teenager to finding recovery, graduating law school, and dedicating his life to helping others.

His honesty, vulnerability, and encouragement resonated deeply with our Rams, reminding them of the importance of making positive choices, seeking support, and living with resilience and hope. We thank Stephen for his impact on our community, and Mr. Martin for his continued leadership in organizing Oratory’s impactful speaker series.

From retreats that strengthened faith and friendship to moments of inspiration, leadership, and achievement, October at Oratory Prep was a month that reflected the best of who we are — a Brotherhood rooted in Fidelity, Humility, Charity and Joy. 🐏✝️
