June Highlights at Oratory Prep

As another academic year came to a close, the month of June at Oratory Prep was marked by reflection, achievement, service, and celebration. From milestone ceremonies to hands-on learning and leadership transitions, here’s a look back at what made this month so memorable.

8th Grade Advancement Ceremony
Congratulations to our 8th Grade students! We proudly celebrated their Advancement Ceremony as they completed their middle school years and prepared to begin the next chapter—whether that journey continues here at OP or elsewhere. We’re proud of all they’ve accomplished and the young men they’re becoming.

Once a Ram, always a Ram. 🐏

Middle School Morning of Service
As part of our Middle School Takeover, 8th Grade students participated in a day of service centered on the charisms of St. Philip Neri: fidelity, humility, charity, and joy.

The group volunteered at The Mercy House in Newark, a Catholic resource and hospitality center serving individuals and families in need. Our students pitched in with outdoor landscaping, sorted food donations, and organized baby clothing. Their efforts were a powerful reminder that small acts of service—done with great love—can make a meaningful impact.

Faculty & Staff Prayer Service
As the year ended, OP faculty and staff gathered for an end-of-year prayer service led by Chaplain Father Matthew. Together, we reflected on the joys and challenges of a life in service to others. With summer underway, we welcomed a season of rest and renewal as we look ahead to the coming school year.

Pottery Demo with 7th Grade
Middle School Takeover brought creativity to the forefront as Mrs. Preston led a live pottery wheel demonstration for 7th Grade. Students had a chance to collaborate on a vase, which was raffled off to Griffin Lewis—who will return this fall to glaze and keep the finished piece.

Special thanks to Mrs. Preston and Mrs. Wirth for organizing this hands-on artistic experience.

AP Environmental Science: Pringles Lab Challenge
AP Environmental Science students put their engineering and problem-solving skills to the test in the Pringles Ringle STEM challenge. The goal? Construct a complete ring using only Pringles chips—no tape, glue, or support structures allowed.

Beyond the careful placement and patience required, the challenge tested everyone’s self-control (after all, who can resist snacking on the supplies?). Thanks to Mrs. Pasnik for leading the lab and sharing photos from this creative experiment.

Student Council Elections
A big congratulations to our newly elected Student Council leaders! These students are ready to represent their classmates and lead with purpose in the year ahead:

  • President/VP: Finn Olohan & Jack Ebert
  • 11th Grade CEO: Jerry Du
  • 10th Grade CEO: Dev Malhotra
  • Middle School CEO: Chris Fay

Our 9th Grade Representative will be elected in the fall. We look forward to seeing the energy and ideas this team brings to the Brotherhood.

Fishing Club Year-End Trip
The OP Fishing Club wrapped up the year with a peaceful and productive morning on the water at Mt. Kemble Lake. Most of the group landed a catch, led by Alex Akiwumi with 9 fish and Kevin Bernstein with 7.

A heartfelt thank-you to Patrick Roberts and his mom, Colleen, for hosting and providing lunch—and to Mr. Van Hoven for overseeing the club and sharing photos from the day.
