Transportation

Oratory Prep is located in suburban Summit, New Jersey. Oratory students come from many towns throughout New Jersey. Our students reach Oratory Prep by taking a bus, train, or by car.

Busing
Busing is available for parts of Essex, Union and Somerset counties. Morris County provides their own transportation service. Route schedules and times are adjusted annually to meet the needs of our students. The public school district from which transportation is being requested must be a district in which transportation is provided for public school pupils.

When students do not attend their local public school and attend a private school, many school districts in New Jersey will partially reimburse parents/guardians for their transportation costs. The reimbursement is referred to as aide in lieu of transportation. This is a state reimbursement determined by and paid through your local Board of Education. Eligibility instructions are on the back side of the B6T Application.

Some towns and counties provide transportation. For example, South Orange, Maplewood, and some towns in Morris County use private contractors to transport students in their district. In order to receive this service, the B6T Application is required. Schools will contact families directly.

To qualify for aide in lieu of transportation, complete the enclosed B6T Application for Private School Transportation and return it to the Oratory Prep Business Office by the deadline indicated in the B6T transportation notice. It is very important to sign and date the application, indicate the grade your son will be in next year, and provide the distance from your home to Oratory Prep School.

Our Business Office will forward the application to your local Board of Education for their review and determination of your eligibility for transportation or aide in lieu of transportation. The state requires Oratory Prep to return this application to the local Boards of Education offices by a certain deadline. If applications are received late, it may affect your eligibility. Physical copies of the B6T form can be picked up and dropped off at the reception desk of DeGaeta Hall. Please note we must have the original signed copy of the completed form. We are not allowed to accept a scanned signed form. You may also download a copy of the form here:

We also provide a shuttle free of charge to our students that will make two pick-ups from the station in the morning and one after school to the station.
