Admissions Process

Request for Information
 
To obtain a viewbook from the admissions office, please fill out the online information form located here or call the admissions office at (908) 273-1084, Ext.119.
 
Submit Application
 
Submit the completed Admissions Application and Applicant Questionnaire along with a $50 non-refundable application fee payable to Oratory School. An applicant photo is encouraged.
 
Application Due Date
We are continuing to accept applications for the 2017-2018 school year for select classes on a rolling basis.  Please contact our Admissions Office to discuss our requirements for Rolling Admissions.
 
After August 1, 2017, we welcome your completed application (see Requirements below) for the 2018-2019 school year.
 
Completed applications for the 2018-2019 school year are due no later than Friday, December 1, 2017.

Requirements
 
Please review all of the information below before starting the application process!
 
1. Online Application
 
The online application for 2018-2019 will be available after August 1, 2017.  Applicants for the 2017-18 school year can use the link below.
 
You may click on the TADS Admissions & Enrollment logo on the right to start the online application process. This includes completion of an Admissions Application, an Applicant Questionnaire and submission of the $50 application fee. Upon your submission of our Application, Questionnaire and Payment, our online platform will prompt you to download the following:
      • A transcript release form to be given to your son’s school. It will request transcripts from the last three years including standardized testing and first marking period grades of the current school year.
      • English Teacher Recommendation Forms (after the first marking period).
      • Math Teacher Recommendation Forms (after the first marking period).
      • Principal or Guidance Counselor Recommendation Form (after the first marking period).
Recommendation forms are to be given to your son’s current English teacher, Math teacher, and Principal/Guidance Counselor. The completed forms should be sent directly by the writer to TADS as instructed on the forms.
 
If your son has undergone evaluation by a school psychologist or by an independent educational consultant, then we will also require copies of the test reports.
 
2. Student Visit- 7th grade (required), all other grades (optional)
 
After completion of the Online Application, please contact the Office of Admissions to schedule your son for a student visit. Please click here to fill out a medical release form.

3. Student Interview
 
Student interviews are conducted during the “Student for a Day” visit.

4. Parent conference
 
The parent conference can be scheduled on the same day as the “Student for a Day” visit.
 
5. Admissions Exam
 
9th Grade Admission Exam
 
Oratory Preparatory School will be using the Archdiocesan COOP Exam. The exam will be administered at Oratory Prep on Friday, November 10, 2017.  To apply for the Exam on-line, please visit www.njcoopexam.org. For questions concerning the exam or exam registration materials, please contact the Admissions Office.

7th Grade Admission Exam

This exam will be administered by Oratory's Admissions Office on Saturday, December 2, 2017 and Saturday December 9, 2017 at 8:30 AM. There will be a $55 examination fee. Click here to register for the exam.  Please contact the Admissions Office for additional information.
 
Decisions

All decisions are made by the Admissions Committee. Decisions are mailed on Thursday, January 11, 2018.  We have rolling admissions should we not be fully enrolled.

Tuition Assistance

Financial Aid

Financial aid at Oratory Prep is based on each family’s ability to pay. To assess financial need, we require families to submit parent financial information to Tuition Aid Data Services (TADS). The TADS Application Form can be accessed online at www.mytads.com.  The priority financial filing date is Friday, December 1, 2017.

Merit-Based Aid

Applicants to Oratory may also compete for one of several merit scholarships: Bain-Gearin Scholarships, Cardinal Newman Scholarships and Head of School Awards. These scholarships are for students who demonstrate strong character and academic promise through their schoolwork, teacher recommendations, COOP Admission Exam, and the Scholarship/Placement Test.  The merit scholarship test will be held at Oratory Prep on December 2, 2017 and December 9th, 2017.  An applicant will not be considered for any merit scholarships unless he has completed the entire application process by December 1, 2017.  This exam is not mandatory for admission.
