De Guzman ('22) Wins Silver for Team USA Freshman Jake De Guzman competed in the World Poomsae Championships last month. He is bringing back a Silver Medal for Team USA in freestyle mixed team under 17 years old. There were over 59 countries competing in the competition, the largest Taekwondo Championship ever. This was the best finish ever for Team USA in this division.
Middle School Toy Drive The Oratory Middle School students are sponsoring a Toy & Gift Drive to benefit Cherished Creations, an organization that seeks to help local needy and ill children. For those who wish to donate there are 2 options: *1*– Choose a “Bear Tag” from the teddy bear poster in the main lobby of DeGaeta Hall and bring in the requested gift with the Bear Tag attached OR *2*- Bring in any toy or game of your choice appropriate for a child between the ages of 2 and 13. Do not wrap. Please place gifts near the basket by the tree in the DeGaeta lobby. Please return all donations no later than Wednesday, 12/12.
School Closed- Friday, Nov. 16th On Friday, November 16, Oratory Prep will be closed. All after school activities are cancelled. Students should check netclass for assignments.
Screenagers Viewing Cancelled The Screenagers viewing scheduled for Thursday, November 15th has been cancelled due to the inclement forecast.
Half Day - Thurs. Nov. 15th Given the inclement forecast and timing of the snow, Oratory Prep will be on a half-day session for Thursday, November 15th. Students will be dismissed at 11:50. All students should be picked up by noon. Shuttles and buses will run on a half day session. All after-school activities and after-school supervision are canceled.
Model UN Attends Conference Several members of the Model UN club attended the annual conference at Horace Mann School on Saturday, October 27. The day was long and tiring but a lot of fun.
OP Freshman Earns First Class Rank Ryan Whyte, 9th grader at Oratory Prep, has achieved the rank of First Class in a Court of Honor ceremony held on October 25th at the Cranford United Methodist Church. Ryan is a member of Boy Scout Troop 75 of Cranford NJ.
OP Junior Wins Union County Individual Title Maximus Russo became Oratory’s first cross country Union County champion outpacing the competition with a 16:07. The Rams placed fourth overall behind Max and excellent runs from Eric Rhines who ran his personal best and Fernando Aviles. The top seven finished 18:02 and better. JV also finished fourth in the county, led by Jack Sula.
Conference Champs The Cross Country Team won the Union County Conference Mountain Division Championship yesterday. Junior Maximus Russo took first overall, clocking a 16:10. Congratulations!
Consortium Chess Team Takes 2nd Place The team of William Brown, Colin Reis, Nico Stauffer, Greg Jones, Greg Gentile and Chris Cowell placed 2nd at the Middle School Consortium Chess Tournament on Tuesday, October 16th.
