OPXC Goes Back to Back

On Friday, October 6th, the Oratory Prep Varsity Cross Country team won the Greystone Invitational. The team was led by Declan Kelly, Connor Bassolino and Tommy Hunt. Bassolino ran under 17:00 in the 5k for the first time. James Nolan and Aidan Murphy also hit personal bests for Varsity. JV finished second at the invitational and was led by Tristan Knight, Aidan Wizeman (PR), and Chase Lynch (PR).

Following up on their performance at Greystone, OPXC won its first conference championship since 2018 with a dominant performance in the Mountain Division of UCC on Tuesday, October 17th. The race was won by Senior Captain Tommy Hunt, followed closely by Junior Declan Kelly and Sophomore Connor Bassolino. Freshman Aidan Murphy finished 6th and Sophomore James Nolan finished 7th overall.

Speaking of their achievement, Coach and Assistant Athletic Director Billy McCrystal, Jr. says, "Winning a conference championship was one of many team objectives this season, and we’re really happy to have accomplished it. It’s also an added bonus to get to call Tommy Hunt an individual conference champion, as he’s been all-in on OPXC since the very first day he started as a Freshman."

OPXC JV was led by James Milton (PR), Conor Heffernan, Aidan Wizeman, Luca Vessecchia (PR) and Patrick Roberts (PR). The group finished 3rd in the county.

The Running Rams compete next at the Union County Championship on October 19th.
