Medications in School

  • Illness with Prescribed Antibiotic. Student should stay home for first 24 hours to make sure no reactions occur. If the medication needs to be taken during the school day, the student must report to the Nurse's Office to have medication stored and given in the office during the school day in the prescription bottle.
  • Prescribed inhalers and Epi Pens may be kept in student's backpack as long as Self Administration Forms are complete.
  • All diabetic students requiring daily insulin must check in daily with diabetic logs and insulin doses.
  • Students requiring daily prescribed meds for ADD or other medical issues, must keep medications in locked cabinet in Nurse's Office for administration and provide a signed Administration of Medication Form from the physician.
  • Any over the counter medication such as a cold medicine (Dayquil) , cough medicine, an antihistamine (Zyrtec, Clartin) must be reported to the School Nurse office and administered by the Nurse.
  • Parents can download the Medication Administration Forms to send in with student for particular medication during a particular illness.

Any questions regarding a specific issue can certainly be addressed with the parent and School Nurse.
