From the Desk of the Alumni & Development Director
Greetings from Walter "Doc" Crum!
How do you like our new Web site? This new look is one of the many improvements that has occurred since July 1, 2009. As of November 1, we rolled out the first official brand: "Preparing lives. One by one." In my eyes, that is a perfect description of Oratory.
Remember the days when you could only take physics if you also took Spanish IV? The academic schedule has been adjusted to enable our guys to take whatever course they need. It comes at a price: 20 minutes was added to the length of the school day. Aren't you glad you have already graduated?
"We have eight sink holes on the soccer field" is a familiar lament from our soccer coaches. This problem will finally be solved when we break ground for an artificial playing surface. We are working on all fronts to make this a reality by the fall of 2010. Please join us when we say, "St. Philip Neri, Pray for Us!"
On a personal note, I am now the proud grandfather of Sophia Rose Crum compliments of Dan '01 and Rachel. This little 5 lb. bundle broke a three-generation streak of all boys.
If you have a soft spot in your heart for your former chemistry/physics teacher and your alma mater, we would be eternally grateful if you would update your contact information by clicking here: http://www.oratoryprep.org/page.cfm?p=396
Warmest Regards,
Walter
In Memoriam
The Reverend Edmund G. Bernauer
A member of the Oratory family, The Reverend Edmund G. Bernauer, died on April 18, 2010. In 1967, Fr. Bernauer was appointed to the faculty at Oratory and during his 30-year tenure here, he taught Religion and Latin, and served also as guidance director and librarian.
The Oratory family remembers Fr. Bernauer fondly. He was a man of patience, good humor and love for his students. I will never forget his hearty laugh and love for food - especially bread smothered in marinara sauce! He will be sorely missed by the Oratory family. Walter
