Congratulations to OP alumnus Steven Zychowski, who qualified for the U.S. Amateur Golf Championship in August.  Steven's rounds of 72 and 66 at Trump National Golf Club in Colts Neck, NJ, qualified him for the championship, to be held at Chambers Bay Golf Club in Washington, August 23-29.  Best of luck Steve!

OPTIONAL TRIP

For the fourth consecutive year, OP is planning an optional trip for students in grades 7-9.  This year, we will be visiting the Boston, MA area.  The dates for the trip are April 28-May 1, 2011.  Students going on the trip will attend school that Thurs. April 28th, and then depart for Boston in the afternoon.  We will return to OP on Sunday, May 1st.  Students will miss one full day of school, but will have plenty of advanced notice to gather their assignments from their teachers.

The intinerary will most likely include stops in Lexington, Concord, Cambridge, Boston, and Plymouth.  The trip details, including pricing, will be announced in September.  Deposits will be due, most likely in late September or October.

A few of the sites we visited in 2009:

-Lexington/Concord: Walking and driving tours of battlefields and visits to museums, American Revolution movie, and more

-Cambridge: Walking tour of Cambridge and Harvard University

-Boston: tours of U.S.S. Constitution, Freedom Trail, Prudential Observation Deck, Quincy Market, Faniuel Hall, Old North Church, Holocaust Memorial, Aquarium, IMAX movie, various museums, and more

-Plymouth: tour Mayflower replica ship, tour Plymouth Village, authentic Thanksgiving meal, and more

OP was recently selected as the NY/NJ "Rookie of the Year School" from the NY Blood Center.  This means that we had a higher % of donors in the upper classes than all other schools in NY/NJ that donated for the first time---and that is out of many.  We are one of 15 schools in both states that were honored at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, June 1st by the Blood Center.  Juniors Rich Jacobs and Tobias Kraft joined Mr. Martin for a pre-game ceremony on the field.  They then joined two dozen other OP students, parents, and teachers in the stands for the game.  Thanks to all who helped us achieve this prestigious honor.
