Oratory is a preparatory school within the Archdiocese of Newark. What makes Oratory special is our pursuit of academic excellence, our personalized approach to education and our Catholic heritage. While some schools see spiritual life as an "add on" to education, Oratory integrates its faith-based values into each day at school.
Oratory presents many opportunities for our students to reach out to others in a variety of ways. Within our own community, we have a team of young men who have chosen to be leaders in their faith. Some choose to be Eucharistic Ministers, some serve as leaders on the yearly grade level retreats for the other students, and others show leadership in our many service opportunities. This team of young men is called the Young Apostles. Our boys have Marched for Life, marched to support our own boys who need support, and they have even participated in "swimathons" for their classmates.
In addition to our internal witnessing, our boys participate in numerous service opportunities. Some of our activities have evolved into traditions within the school. Other activities are created by the young men themselves who conceive of the ideas and execute the events themselves. They are encouraged to look at the world around them and see where they can make a difference. They have been recognized for their outstanding service by organizations they serve. All students are encouraged to serve in some way. In our area we serve SHIP, the Food Bank, Bridges, Covenant House, food banks in our students' communities, and schools in need of sports equipment or art supplies.
